Babies of Homelessness
Messaging for stakeholders
We need help with our messaging. Specifically, mission / vision / story development. We have a new website redesign coming in Oct. Beforehand, we'd like to get our messaging in order and finalized. Ensuring it resonates with a variety of stakeholders including the families we serve, our donors / supporters, and prospective volunteers.
Homelessness in Seattle is a very controversial and heated topic. Many folks tend to lump the homeless population into 2 buckets - drug addicted or mentally ill. For the 4k unsheltered families with children we serve, this isn't true. We have a large job to do to educate, raise awareness and advocate for this niche demographic of the homeless population. We need your help with messaging development. We are the only direct and low barrier social service agency in King and Snohomish Counties, a crisis emergency crisis response team, where volunteers deliver basic needs items (i.e. diapers, formula, food, gas, and grocery gift cards) to unsheltered families living in tent cities, encampments, shelters or in their cars.
There are many social services geared toward helping youth and homeless individuals in Greater Seattle. Very few, if any, exist for unsheltered families needing basic needs items for their children. Meanwhile, the two biggest programs that assist low-income and homeless mothers, SNAP (food stamps) and WIC, do not cover diapers or baby wipes. To make matters worse, out of the seven diaper banks that exist in Washington, ZERO exist in Snohomish County.
We need your help letting the Seattle community know of this problem and regardless of how they feel about homelessness, they need to know there are innocent children involved who have no say in the situation.
We've mapped out 3 components of our story and hope to recruit your help to make it all flow together. We also would like help making it highly visual as well in addition to text.
These are the components we need to include in our story:
- problem we are trying to solve
- why the problem exists / here's why (can do so in an infographic format - explain how families are unsheltered in Seattle and why exists)
- show simple plan what we're doing to solve problem
As the only direct and low barrier social service agency in King and Snohomish counties, our crisis emergency response team delivers basic needs items (i.e. diapers, formula, food, gas, and grocery gift cards) to unsheltered families living in tent cities, encampments, shelters or in their cars. We aim to provide hope to families giving them the resources, knowledge, and skills to be self-sufficient. Our goal is to remove the stigma “homelessness” carries by shedding light on the youngest and most vulnerable subjected to homelessness.
