Project need

ASG is looking for help building financial models to plan for a space transition. We are facing displacement from our current location due to rent hikes and other non-negotiable lease terms and have now started to actively look at alternative solutions. We need help evaluating the best options by creating financial plans and models for those options. With those models, we can then decide the best course forward and develop fundraising goals/plans. The range of options include short-term and long-term leases with varied constraints, as well as potentially purchasing a building with other non-profit partners or on our own. Aggregate Space Gallery, a sanctuary for groundbreaking and emerging contemporary art in Oakland, CA, will be displaced and seeks a new address. We're looking for support through the transition, particularly from those with finance, real estate, and/or fundraising expertise.

Our growth as an arts organization has been momentous. Over the past few years we've grown from an artist-run space into a nationally funded non-profit with recognition and awards from renowned institutions such as the National Endowment for the Arts, Andy Warhol Foundation, Zellerbach Family Foundation, Kenneth Rainin Foundation, and Creative Work Fund. Despite substantive traction, we are still losing our current physical location and now face the challenge of securing a new long term home.

We need help during this pivotal moment. With the right expertise and support, ASG will be able to secure its long-term future in the Bay Area as a vehicle for ground-breaking multi-media, installation, and experimental video works that push forward challenging conversations and create new worlds of thought.

At this moment, those with finance and/or real estate expertise will have a tremendous impact on our future. This is the time in our history that we need the most help from skilled volunteers.

What we have now:

1) Tremendous community support and connections from Bay Area artists and arts non-profit organizers.
2) All our accounting updated in yearly spreadsheets
3) A range of skilled volunteers and part-time staff
4) Active board and operations infrastructure

Organization's mission

ASG envisions an Oakland where artists can make and experience art in a safe space with access to production tools and hands-on guidance, creating work that fuels critical dialogue in a time when it is desperately needed. ASG is a charitable, artist-run exhibition and performance space in West Oakland that prioritizes the exhibition of artwork that generally can’t be seen elsewhere – our mantra is “Install the Unimaginable.”
