Project Overview

We are looking for a motivated individual with marketing and communications experience to support the promotion of the Spina Bifida Association's (SBA) annual Walk-N-Roll (WNR). WNR is a series of local, peer-to-peer fundraising events that take place in communities across the country and raise money to provide programs and improve access to quality, affordable healthcare for the 166,000 Americans living with Spina Bifida.

Spina Bifida is the most common, permanently disability birth defect in the U.S. that is also compatible with life. Unfortunately, many of these individuals struggle to find the healthcare they need, particularly as they age out of pediatric care. SBA is the only organization in existence focused solely on addressing this challenge.

We need someone who cares about improving the lives of people with disabilities and creating a more equitable healthcare system who has a passion for marketing and communications to help us recruit WNR participants. The work will involve developing messaging and multimedia promotions that will be delivered via email, social media, and through our community of local volunteers.

Specifically, we are looking for help to craft and execute a marketing/outreach campaign which will include:
o Outbound campaigns – email promotions, possibly digital ads, and printed collateral
o Social media – reaching out and growing SBA social media groups and encouraging them to join the Fundraising Frenzy.

Someone who has working knowledge of social media platforms, bulk email providers, and Canva is an ideal candidate.

WNRs are our largest fundraisers of the year, and they are also are largest community-building events. For many families of children with Spina Bifida, the connections they make at WNR events are literally a lifeline. By taking on this volunteer opportunity, you have the chance to participate in something that changes people's lives. You will make a real, tangible difference for a community of incredible people.

Right now, WNR promotion is underway with a 60-day "Fundraising Frenzy" designed to get people to register and start raising money early in the season. Most WNRs occur in the fall, but the time to get started is now. If you are looking for a chance to use your marketing skills to do some good in the world, we need you! This is a fully remote volunteer opportunity. We can work around your schedule. The project is time-limited, but if you enjoy the work, there are plenty of opportunities to continue. You will almost certain fall in love with our volunteers and the people in our Spina Bifida community. Their passion for this work is infectious. More information on our WNRs can be found here: https://www.eventcreate.com/e/2024walknrollforsb.

Much preparation has already gone into the planning for the Walk-N-Roll season and the foundational elements of the Fundraising Frenzy have been established. Walk-N-Roll dates have been set, planning committees are in place, registration pages are done, the website landing page built, and day-of logistics planning is well underway.

The Fundraising Frenzy dates have been layered on, the campaign parameters are in place, the t-shirt has been designed and delivery worked out. SBA has segmented its database in preparation for the Fundraising Frenzy campaign. We're looking for someone who's ready to jump right in and do some important, meaningful work!
